Rows after rows, hundreds of hectares of modern hightech horticulture developments springing out of the ground. No, this is not one of the large agro park projects being realised in China, but in the northern part of the Netherlands. Horticulture is spreading out of the 'capital' of Dutch Horticulture, Westland, into other parts of the country like #Flevoland and #Brabant (see the map from a recent news article).

In my earlier study of the DNA of Westland, I looked at how the evolvement of Westland over the last 100 years can mean to cluster developments in other parts of the World like China. But as COVID, ecommerce are rapidly driving up consumer demand for health fresh sustainable local-for-local all around the world, an interesting question is how will new clusters evolve here on the Dutch home soil to form ecosystem of breeders, growers, traders, start-ups or complete new forms of food chain cooperations? Will the regions join forces more to specialise and complement 🍅 🥒🌷Samensterk? Will we see a 🍓Strawberry Valley evolving here in Flevoland for example?
